What's the difference between using Chlorine or Salt for my pool or spa?

A saltwater pool isn't better than a chlorine pool because it "is a chlorine pool." A saltwater pool system is the same thing as a salt "chlorine" generator / salt chlorinator. Saltwater pools electrically convert salt into chlorine. It's the chlorine that keeps the pool water clean just like the chlorine you buy in buckets.

Pros: Requires a saltwater generator as well as basic equipment like pumps and filters. Pool DoctoRx and Spa technical repair specialists can install any required equipment

Cons: The saltwater can corrode regular pool equipment and linings. For existing pools, you will need to upgrade to salt-resistant parts and surfaces. Pool owners often rave about how nice saltwater feels but is also a corrosive substance.

But I hate the smell of Chlorine

You are probably smelling "spent or used Chlorine" because proper Chlorine levels have been exceeded and you are smelling used Chlorine. So now it is time for a Water Balance Test and to make adjustments to the entire picture versus dumping new Chlorine into the water. Drop by our store (Monday - Friday 10 to 5, Saturday 10 to 4) and we'll "test your water", print out the correct chemical levels and provide any water care product you may need. You will find a complete line of water care products in our store and helpful assistance to solve any water balance issues

If Chlorine is meant to keep my pool clean, why do I have algae?

Sometimes too much combined Chorine and CYA (conditioner) can actually cause algae blooms. Whenever "combined chlorine" exceeds more than 25% (free residual chlorine less total residual chlorine), it's time to shock the pool. This is achieved by adding 10X more chlorine and "shocking the pool." If this makes you feel a little uneasy calculating the formula, call us and we'll help or resolve the problem for you.
